As crazy as it seems that we are nearing the end of 2019, here we are! No matter how your year went, you may be ready to make some changes. With the new year approaching, it is the perfect time to start considering your New Year’s resolutions. Here are four suggestions to consider as you consider your career and create your 2020 vision.

Make this the year of work-life balance

Make it a priority! How often do you tell yourself you need to leave work at work and home at home and find the balance between the two? If you’re still reading, probably a lot. It’s easy to get so invested in your work that you forget to focus on your personal life. Plus, even if you can’t feel it now, eventually, too much work decreases your productivity and effectiveness.

Commit to finding something new to learn

We discussed the importance of making learning a priority in our previous article. Whether it’s related to your career, something of personal interest, or anything in between, find something new to learn about in 2020. The more we learn, the more our brains open to learning. This means, even if it isn’t work-related, you’ll perform better on the job.

If you do want to advance your career, this is an excellent way to do it. Research different trends in talent acquisition and see where there’s a potential hole in your knowledge. Find a way to focus on closing this gap and show your employer (and future employers!) your willingness to stay on top of the changing recruiting landscape to be the best sourcer-recruiter you can be.

Get involved with volunteering

With so much going on in your career, it’s easy to lose sight of things bigger than us. We’re so busy that we forget about the importance of giving back. Beyond helping other people, volunteering helps us develop perspective and learn more about the world around us.

The Search Wizards team is regularly looking for opportunities to help in our communities. A few of the organizations we are more involved with include Girls Inc., Wounded Warrior, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,  Wildlife Conservation Society, Starkey Hearing Foundation, The Painted Turtle CampEnd Slavery, and the Atlanta Community Foodbank.

Find your dream career

This may seem like a cliché, but it’s never too late to pursue something different for yourself. Life is too short to stay in a place that isn’t the right fit for you. You need to be responsible, but that doesn’t mean settling.

If you’re a talent acquisition professional who loves the work but is looking for new opportunities, consider life as a contractor. You’ll get to work on recruiting teams across different industries and assist with several various projects. Even better, you don’t have to do it alone.
