Today, Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is celebrated on June 19th each year. It marks the day in 1865 when the news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth is a reminder of the resilience, strength, and perseverance of the African American community throughout history.
